Soshinkan Karate for Kids (8-14)
Aikido Northshore is now offering Soshinkan karate for children ages 8-14. Soshinkan karate is a traditional, non-competitive Japanese practice that enables children to develop the full-range of their naturally integrated bodies. It helps instill confidence, strong posture, coordination, respect, and self-awareness. The focus of classes will be traditional open-hand kata (or forms) and bokken (wooden training sword).
Classes are Wednesday evenings from 4-5pm
Since there is only a single class each week a special reduced dojo tuition rate is offered to children who only wish to participate in karate. Tuition is paid monthly.

About Soshinkan Karate
The focus of Soshinkan Karate Jissenjuku practice is the development of a strong body, spirit of harmony, peaceful heart, and usable martial arts techniques through traditional Kata containing 600 years of Okinawa history.
The ultimate goal is control of an opponent through body breathing, proper posture, harmonization, and neutralization gained from kata and kata-based applications of paired training engagements.
Through Soshinkan practice, one can step beyond the relative and immerse oneself in the absolute. In so doing, one can harmonize with time and space and take the first step of body breathing which is the flow of Ki. Through Ki flow, one trains the body, refines the heart, and unifies mind and body for a stronger self. This is the secret to progress.
While actual techniques are, of course, important, the way of heart and mind is even more so. This is the reason why Soshinkan is called the practice of the heart-mind.
The teaching of Soshinkan Karate Jissenjuku does not simply aim at technical acquisition to win against an opponent on a relative scale. It emphasizes immersing oneself in the absolute enabling karate progress through winning against oneself and harmonizing with an opponent. The learning processes in Soshinkan karate combined with dedication and effort elevate its practitioners and can be applied to daily life as real practice.
